Pangaea Adventures organizes backpacking and base camp adventures in both Wrangell St. Elias National Park and the Chugach Mountains surrounding Prince William Sound. For a unique adventure we can plan trips to areas where no other hikers have ever been. We can also take your group to the classic areas in the national park or easily accessed trails.

Wrangell St. Elias National Park
Each of these trips meet in Valdez and include travel time to and from McCarthy. We also spend some time in town to explore the rich history. Please be sure to leave an extra day after any trip that includes bush flights just in case there are delays.

A flight brings us up the Tana River Valley before landing near Iceberg lake. Adorned with glaciers, high peaks, and tundra, this area offers endless views and day hike opportunities. Water taxi out to Shoup Bay. We put on our packs and hike up the glacially carved Valley to the ridge line overlooking Shoup Bay. Enjoy alpine lakes and tundra. We may even walk onto the glacier. Return to Shoup Bay for the return water taxi back to Valdez.

Back at the turn of the century, Westerners flooded into Valdez to find their way into interior Alaska via the Valdez Glacier to find gold.
